Standing the Line: Why Washington’s “Save Our Sheriff” Rally Matters

On January 9, 2026, a powerful message echoed through the halls of Experience Church in Puyallup, Washington. As patriots and concerned citizens gathered for the Save Our Sheriff Rally, the atmosphere was charged with a singular, urgent purpose: protecting the last line of defense for our local liberties—the Office of the Sheriff.  This was a powerful event hosted by the American Police Officers Alliance and the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace officers Association.

For those of us dedicated to returning to Constitutional law, the stakes have never been higher. We are witnessing an unprecedented era where the authority of our elected sheriffs is being systematically undermined by bureaucratic overreach and political agendas.

The Keynote: A Call to Action by General Flynn

The highlight of the evening was a stirring keynote from General Michael Flynn. A man who understands the weight of the Constitution better than most, Flynn spoke to the heart of the movement. He didn’t just talk about policy; he spoke about the fundamental duty of every American to protect the institutions that protect us.

Flynn emphasized that the Sheriff is the only law enforcement officer in the country who is directly elected by the people. When the state or federal government attempts to bypass that authority, they aren’t just attacking a person; they are attacking the will of the voters and the bedrock of our Republic.

Why Our Sheriffs Are Under Attack

The rally, hosted in part by the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association and The American Police Officers Alliance, shed light on the specific pressures facing local leaders like Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank. From legislative attempts to impose unelected oversight boards to resolutions that restrict a sheriff’s ability to cooperate with federal agencies on vital security issues, the message is clear: the establishment wants a “police force,” not a “peace officer.”

The threats identified at the rally include:

Standing for the Rule of Law

As Sam Bushman, CEO of the CSPOA, noted during the event, the sheriff answers to the people—not to a governor, and certainly not to a distant bureaucrat.

Supporting our sheriffs is about more than just “backing the blue”; it is about ensuring that the law is applied as the Founders intended. When a sheriff stands up against an unconstitutional law, they are fulfilling their highest duty. As citizens, it is our job to be the wind at their backs.

Our Path Forward

The “Save Our Sheriff” rally was more than a meeting; it was a mobilization. If we want to return to a nation governed by the Constitution, we must start at the local level. We must ensure our sheriffs know they have a community ready to stand with them when they choose the Constitution over convenience.

A partnership between the American Police Officers Alliance and the Constitutional Police Officers Association.   Daniel Stuebs stated that this partnership will unite the missions between the two organizations.  To help make sure that constitutional sheriffs are elected and defended in this country.
