American Police Officers Alliance Releases Statement on Seattle Police Chief Resignation

Seattle, WA. – National grassroots political organization American Police Officers Alliance made a statement today about the resignation of Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best last week. Executive Director Daniel Stuebs released this statement:

“Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best was an outstanding police chief and represented both her department and community to the highest degree anyone could ask for. She was the first Black woman to lead the department, and was a true leader. She encapsulated everything that these protesters are pushing for- she brought diversity, leadership, and respect to her position. But these protesters have pushed her out. Why?

Progressive activists are calling for change- but she was the change they wished to see. Instead the city council voted to cut her salary, as well as her staff’s salaries, and reduced her force by as many as 100 officers. They cut her off at the knees and crippled her ability to manage her department effectively.

Carmen Best’s announcement of her retirement last week was devastating to the police community. It shows us that the people claiming to want real change and leadership are really just trying to destroy our law enforcement through and through. These protesters and city council members don’t really want better for our communities- or they wouldn’t have forced her out. Seattle should have given Best more funding, more resources. We are sorry to see her go, and are concerned that these actions highlight the ever growing danger to our law enforcement community around the country.”

American Police Officers Alliance’s mission is to help elect local leaders who respect and understand the decisions police officers are forced to make each day, and will fight for their rights and ensure that police officers are receiving the support, tools, training, and compensation they need and deserve so they can remain safe as they protect us.
